Excerpt from, “Some Men Can Cook, Some Men Can Watch TV, and Some Men Can Do Both, Secrets of the Fighter Pilot in the Kitchen”

Of course, the easiest way to do BBQ sauce is simply to buy it.  There are so many types, that you might be tempted to go this route.  However, like so many other things you can prepare, nothing compares to creating your own.

  • Brown onion – 2
  • Brown sugar – 1 cup
  • Prepared mustard – 1 cup
  • Tomato sauce – 2 cans
  • Apple cider vinegar – 1/8 cup
  • Garlic powder – 1 tablespoon
  • Cayenne pepper – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons

Brown the onion in the oil, then combine remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour.  As an option, you can use less sugar and add either pure maple syrup or sorghum molasses.Apply liberally to the meat towards the end of the cooking being careful to not allow the sauce to burn the meat.  Serve the meat with a fresh layer of the BBQ sauce.
