The first successful trans -continental auto crossing was only in 1903. Driven by a Vermont doctor, Horatio Nelson Jackson, and Sewell Crocker, plus their dog, Bud. It took them 63+ days to travel the length of the country which then had only 150 paved miles in the entire USA!
When we went on a trip, it was pure turmoil. Mom was always in trouble with Dad, which meant that he was in trouble with her for saying so. You knew that there was going to be heat in the car when we took a wrong turn. Sometimes, it might be miles before you realized it, and there is that sick panicky feeling when you are sure that you are not on the right track, and you aren’t sure when you when wrong. You are not even sure where to start over from. It is terrible.
