ChangesTheBook Chapter 32

This airplane also had a HUD or heads up display. It was also computerized by the same system and used a cathode ray tube to display an image from a projector using mirrors and such.  The projected image would then beam on the glass in front of you. It would give you raw data feed of everything that you would normally have to look down in the cockpit to get info on. Navigation problems, bombing problems, aim points, compass, etc.

Today, you can purchase a fairly inexpensive auto that has a HUD.  It is amazing to me that this took so long to get to the public use, as it definitely improves your outside awareness while driving.
